Some pics from todays Thriputharaatu.Parvathi Devi at Chengannur Mahadeva temple is a menstruating goddess.Her holy bath on the fourth day is celebrated as Thriputharattu.A chief feature is Chamayathaalapoli where young girls dressed with ornaments welcome her.
After her holy bath ,Devi is received by devotees mainly women back to the temple in procession
At the temple,Devi Parvathi is welcomed by Lord Mahadeva. This is called Shiva Parvathi Sangama,another highlight of Thriputharattu
Women across all ages welcome her and accompany her in her Arattu.They are referred to as amma's friends or Thozhimaar. Thriputharattu where menstruation of Devi Parvathi is celebrated is a festival of womanhood
